Chamber Membership Sales & COVID-19It’s a strange and uncertain time, and likely to get more strange and uncertain. As concerns regarding COVID-19 spread in communities across the country, business owners are facing a situation that threatens their basic survival. We’ve heard from many of you, with questions about what you should be doing in terms of membership recruitment during this time. It’s such an unprecedented set of circumstances; we certainly don’t claim to have all of the answers. But one thing we do know is that it would be in very bad form to try to leverage the situation to boost membership sales. A good place for you to put your focus right now is on your existing members. Some of them may not survive the economic hardships that the next several weeks will bring. And they know it. They are vulnerable. They are worried. And though the chamber may not be able reach in and make it all better, you can reach out with empathy and let them know that you are there for them. Stay up to date and communicate business-relevant information from the Small Business Association, the Centers for Disease Control and other sources. Compile and distribute a list of action steps that your members can take to protect their employees, their customers and their businesses during this time. Our friends at the US Chamber and ACCE have pulled together some very helpful resources and communication templates that you may find useful. Bottom line – right now it is all about your members.
